Mankato Makerspace

Service Description

Sign up if you need to TRIM your pots or sculptures. Note: You need to take the TRIMMING class within 2.5 WEEKS of throwing/building your work. Once trimmed your works will be bisque fired. After they come out of the kiln you will be notified that you should come in to Glaze your works.. the pieces then will be fired once more and you will be able to take them home. TRIMMING: This class will focus on finalizing the forms and carved decorative elements of your works. You will either be using the ceramic wheel to trim vessels made in a previous wheel-throwing class OR add decorative carvings and underglazes to hand-built sculptures THEN come back to GLAZE: Once your work is bisque-fired, you will come in to glaze your work. Glaze can serve to color, decorate, and the smooth surface makes them food-safe. Final firing renders vessels suitable for holding liquids, sealing the inherent porosity of unglazed biscuit ware. It also creates a tougher surface. NOTE: you may take this class as many times as you would like. Each session we will continue to develop skills and techniques Rest assured that the Makerspace staff are doing their best to keep this a safe environment with extra cleaning and safety protocols. High traffic surfaces are wiped down with disinfectant, but please help us out by following these protocols: If you have been feeling sick please communicate with the instructor to postpone or reschedule.
